Schipper Clan Comes to Town

We got the chance to go see the Schipper clan at Adam Johnson's in Hopkins last Thursday. We finally got to meet Wyatt and HP and Gracyn had a fun time with bubbles and running around. It's so nice to get to see them and I know that sometime we'll be able to hang out again when we move to the same area. Did you know that Luke and I went to the same elementary, middle school, high school, college? Crazy.

We are going to be heading to Grand Rapids to spend the 4th of July holiday! We are so excited to have a long weekend and spend time with family.

Hailey has moved up and is now in tap dance class. She did great in her first class and is way less timid than in the class with the younger kids. She also started gymnastics a few weeks back and LOVES it! It is the greatest thing ever for her. She loves to tumble around, play on the bars and walk the balance beam. Hopefully we'll get some pictures of those soon.

My summer break is coming to an end way too fast. I start school again in two weeks. I can't wait until it's all wrapped up in December!

Beth is on her summer schedule now so life is calming down a little bit for her. We are still looking for a house and really hope to get in before the winter. Pray to the house fairy for us!

I survived the 2008-2009 school year. WOW it went fast. I learned alot and am excited to have an even better 2009-2010. Thinking I graduated from High School 10 years ago is something that hasnt quite digested yet.

Seriously, has it been over a month since we posted? Oh man, I'm sorry. There has been alot going on! Have I ever said "there's not much going on?", oh well I digress.

Tony and Heathyr had their baby the Thursday before Memorial Day. We were up there to meet "little" Ashyr James Dean Dahline and it was a really nice time. He weighed in at 10lbs, 2ounces. Go figure Tony's kid would come out 3 lbs heavier than HP was.

We had great weather and enjoyed just relaxing at the Dahline compound on Pokegama. Can't wait to get back.

I just finished another school term. I'm now on Summer break for 6 weeks. Can't wait to start back up though because I have 2 classes next term, 1 class the next and then I'm done. It has been such a long road, but fulfilling. The girls have been so supportive and I thank them so much for sticking with me. I sure hope neither of us choose to get our PhD's!

We haven't yet bought a house. We've found a few we like, but for some reason are so picky because of what we went through in Lincoln. We really want to get into something by Fall though. I'll keep you all posted.

Last Saturday, uncle Tony was scheduled to arrive about 10pm. I texted him at 6pm and he said he would be leaving soon. I really wanted Hailey to be able to see him before bed. Well, the knock on the door at 6:45pm was Tony! He played a little trick on us. HP always loves being around him and she was so excited. We went to the Mall of America and went on some rides. Well, my little brother turned 30 over the weekend and we decided to surprise him by making a tip up north. Most of the family got to join us for dinner (blasted night shifts kept Devin away) at the Forest Lake and cake back at the Timberlake hotel. The pool is great and HP loved the slides. I know that it has been awhile since either of us have posted (yeah, yeah, you've heard that before), so I wanted to send everyone a little bit of an update.

I started my next school term. After this one, only a few more to go. School should be over by Dec 2009. I can't wait. Beth and Hailey both have to give up so much for me to be able to work towards this degree and I am really lucky and grateful.

HP started at a new school this past week. It was just time for us to move from the Montessori school into a new facility. Her new school is much larger and segments the kids better. I think this is really a better fit for her and we're excited to watch her progress.

Beth has been sitting in traffic alot. Yeah, the freeways haven't been the place to be over the past few weeks. I'll let her write more later.

For those who don't know, Tony and Heathyr are having a baby in the spring. We're super excited to see another cousin for HP. We also can't wait to help them outfit their nursery. (notice, I'm not saying if we are going to have a niece or nephew, or if we are sharing clothes. I'll let them tell you)

Florida with Schippers

I spent last weekend in Florida with Luke, Sarah and Gracyn. I was alone and only gone for like 36 hours. I needed a few more flight segments to maintain status with NWA otherwise the family would have gone. We will have to book a trip for sure. It was a fun time although short. Luke and I went to the local pub for some of the best, no actually the best, wings I have ever eaten to watch the UMD football game. Go DOGS!

Greetings, It has been forever since we have been posting. Things have been a bit busy around here with my MBA term winding down and a bunch of in state travel. I am over half way done with my MBA and am excited for the upcoming winter break. I should be all done come this time next year.

Hailey is really growing and you'd be amazed at how well she is talking. We had some conferences with her school teacher (yeah I know crazy that a two year old has conferences) and as you would expect she is going great. She has come a long way in her potty training and I'm so excited to not have to change the diapers. Wiping for someone else will take some getting used to though.

Beth's job is in high gear and she has been working out a ton at LA Fitness. I got on the racquetball train playing against Gary and he has pretty much worked me every game. The exercise feels good though but man, that ball can be tough to hit sometimes.

We will be in the area for Thanksgiving and GR over Christmas so mark your calendars for some holiday madness.

I first of all want to apologize for not keeping our blog up to date. Ever since the move, i've been on the road every week, and we've been totally struggling to keep up on things. (Like I should actually be doing the dishes right now). With that said, I wanted to tell you about a couple of cool things.

This term marks my halfway point in the MBA program. I'll be so excited when this is over so I can return to being a dad and husband fulltime. (and yes Dave, marketing manager).

HP has been doing GREAT on the potty. She pretty much goes on the potty every time she has to go, but we need to work on nighttime next. We're so proud of her. It's funny, we give her m&m's and stickers each time she goes, but she doesn't put the sticker on her shirt, she lifts her shirt and puts it on her belly.

Beth has really rocked Eden Prairie kids and is a great counselor. She does this while making sure i have time to do homework and travel. I don't know how she does it.

My favorite band Phish is getting back together so hopefully I'll get tickets for the Hampton, VA shows. Keep your fingers crossed. We are going to see Ben Folds next Friday and are super excited for that.

Happy Bday to Jules! She turns 40 (i know i'm being nice here, really nice) tomorrow. We love you and hope you had a great time last night. Dad, when she turns her next big birthday, can you please do it on a weekend!

The big 28!

It has been a wonderful birthday. Depite the fact I am shocked I am 28 years old, I had a wonderful day. Thank you to all of you who sent cards and called with birthday wishes. Things have been very busy for the Dahline family but we are all doing well. Today Hailey and Jim suprised me with cards and a nice gift. I recieved several phone calls and cards as well, all of which were great. And for the first time I saved all the cards until my actual birthday, well except for one from my brother and sister in law. I was able to spend the evening with college friends and had a great time, Hailey made a good friend (possible future boyfriend) Jackson and had a great time at his house. Thank you Sarah and Derek for having us, we had a wonderful time with you and your families, and your house is amazing. It was a great party, we hope you enjoy your gift.

On another note, my brother and sister in law welcomed their first child into the world yesterday 9/12/08. Mira Lynn Kinsley is healthy and doing well. Mira will forever share her birthday with my sister Brianna which is great for both of them. Congrats Jeff and Keisha, welcome to the wonderful life of parenthood! We are so excited for you and cant wait to meet Mira.

Hailey's 2nd Birthday

Hailey celebrated her 2nd birthday this past week. We had a little party for her as with all the changes in our lives Jim and I were not able to plan a party. Sorry Hailey, but we promised her a big party next year, so mark your calendars. Hailey had a great time, she loves to open presents and also likes to try on everything she gets. She is a wonderful child, she is doing everything a kids should do and enjoying life (except bedtime). We are so proud of her she can count to 10 (sometimes to 13), sing her ABC's, sings twinkle star, itsy bitsy spider, where is thumbkin, and old McDonald, and five little monkeys. She loves to dance to anything and her favorite is "Hailey Jump up and down" she would be happy to show you if you like :). She can put on her own shoes and knows her left from right foot. She really likes Dora and Nemo at this point. She likes to walk up and down the stairs without help (which can be nerve racking). She likes to play outside at the park swinging or at home riding her bike. She loves to shop and to try on shoes at target. Hailey definitely has an opinion about things in the last few weeks. She is awesome and we are so excited about what the next year brings.

Hailey LOVES to ride her bike. Her legs are still a little short but she makes it work. She is pretty particular whether you can help her or not. She loves to go fast and run into things but she is starting to figure out that she can turn directions without stopping. Its great to watch and helps burn a lot of energy.

Well, what a weekend. I got in a small car accident going to one of my finals. No damage, but I didn't want to leave the scene since I didn't know the rules in NE. Lame. Then we had the unveiling of the new Child Guidance Website that we donated to Beth's agency right after my final. Saturday we got the office ready for primer and painting. We hated the blue and we are switching realtors so no better time than now to change it up. Well, i'm tired, but here are a few snapshots of HP putting up tape (yes, it is on the wall), and she helped me put in some screws. The last shot is the "pre-organized" new office. It looks great we think.

Since I have posted so I thought I would send a little update. This has been a super busy week for us. I made a work trip to Duluth, my school term is ending, Beth's school year is ending and Hailey is adjusting to her new daycare/school. All in all, we're ready for June to get here. The house is still for sale and we really aren't getting much activity. Pray to the real estate gods for help when you get a chance. We miss everyone and are excited for some grandparent visits in June! Talk you all soon.

On Monday, Hailey starts at a new school called La Petite Academy. We went through the facility a few times and it is unbelievable. The teachers are all actual teachers with degrees and the development of the kids that Hailey will be joining is unreal. We are so excited for her. They are a nice mix of letting kids be kids, and an educational facility.

While I worked on an Accounting project, Beth and HP went for a walk with Erin. When they got back, Beth was getting HP ready for bed and before putting on her PJ's, she asked HP if she needed to go Potty. Hailey of course said, YEAH, and she went into the bathroom. We got her up on her potty and watched her do some pushing with a little coaching from the two of us. After a few little toots, we heard the most beautiful sounding of water hitting water, and the celebration began. Lil Huney just went potty on the big girl potty. We cheered for a few minutes and gave her a few cookies. Sure beat slaving away on debits and credits.

House woes continue

Well, we had a promising buyer come through on Sunday only to have them choose to put an offer in on another house. This is pretty much the second time that has happened and we couldn't be more frustrated. We how have the house listed below what we paid for it two years ago. It's such a difficult thing to go through. Keep your fingers crossed, and for those of you who pray, pray to the housing gods that this puppy will sell so we can move on to the next chapter of our lives.

With that said, our friends Corey and Erin Jansen just had their baby. Little Harrison Jansen is now like 10 days old and they stopped over for a quick visit last night. Lil Huney didn't know what to say.

De-Stapling

Well, I get my staples out today and I couldn't be more excited. My wound was in the middle of the back of my head and since I can't get it wet, no showers for me. I've taken a few baths, but I really need a nice shower. I can't wait.

I can't tell you how frustrated Beth and I are with our house situation. People are really taking to the street behind our house. We are now listed below what we paid for it two years ago. We just want to get this deal done! This is just the worst experience ever. I have a month break from school coming up and I was hoping to be moving then. Pray for this weekend's open house to bring through our buyer!

Well, I best get back to working. Happy Birthday (yesterday) Daddy Dean-o! 5 working shifts left and you are going to be retired. We're so proud of you and your 30+ years in your career! Also, my uncle Lane retires in the next week or so! Congratulations! Denver, when is it your turn?

Chalkdust Torture

Today, Lil Huney and Mommy went to Walgreens and Lil Huney picked out some street chalk. Right away when she got home, she got Daddy to open up the package and paint up the driveway.

FYI - "Chalkdust Torture" is the name of one of my favorite Phish songs.

Here's an update on my medical situation (I know it seems like we are always talking about one of us being sick). I have still been a little dizzy and slept most of the weekend. I took two days off of work to rest up, and that really helped. I am excited to get back into the groove tomorrow though. I get my staples out on Friday. I'm not getting used to using the bath tub so I can't wait till this weekend so I can shower.

In the first picture, Hailey was trying to figure out how to sit like I was. Quite a chuckle watching her, but she never gives up.

Daddy Down

Some of you may have heard, but I had a little issue in Louisville on Friday. The morning was going normal, and I had done two presentations for some financial advisors. There was a lunch break between the second and third presentations so a co-worker and I were going to go check on some packages we were sending out. She went to get the labels and I went to concierge. While standing and talking to the concierge, I felt my vision kind of fading out for a few seconds and the next thing I knew, there were people all around me and I was laying on the floor. I was completely confused and in alot of pain. I had fainted and smacked my head on the marble floor. I was brought to Norton Hospital via ambulance. I had several tests including blood, EKG, CT scan and X-Rays. Everything came back normal. As for the cut on my head, it measured about 2.5 inches and required 8 staples to close up. I made it back to Lincoln and I'm doing better. Still a bit disorientated and sore.

Nice eh? Between Beth, Hailey and I, we can't stay away from the doctor.

Most of you know my good buddy Luke Schipper. He now lives in Boynton Beach, FL with his wife Sarah and daughter Gracyn. Anyway, last night he called me late and let me know he got accepted into his PH.D program. Unreal. Never thought that kid would be a doctor someday as he strutted through the hallowed halls of Southwest elementary with sweat pants on and puffy black hair.

Way to go buddy, we're proud of you and miss you all a ton!

Health Update

I just wanted to take a few minutes and give an update on my health. It was unfortunate that I was again hospitalized during our last trip to Minnesota. However, I have been improving since that time. Although, I still do not have any definite answers I did meet a new Nurse Practitioner and Gastro Doctor in Omaha this week that are optimistic they will find answers to help alleviate my symptoms. So please keep your fingers crossed. I will be doing some blood work and other tests in the next month and revisiting my new gastro specialists in May. I hope that I will have some answers at that time but know that if not, I have good well great doctors invested in helping me! Thanks to all of you who helped myself, Jim, and Hailey through the last episode. It is tough on all of us we appreciate all the others do to help! I will keep you posted and keep hope that someone will find an answer or answers to my problems. I cant wait to return to good health :)

Sick

Sunday morning came with some big Surprises! Hailey woke up early and showered us with gifts of fever, vomiting, and the runs. She has been home sick for the most part of this week. She has been trying so hard to play but she just does not have then energy. I must have taken her temp alot because she can now do it herself, and actually get an accurate reading (amazing)! She likes to relax in her pj's and lay on the couch or in bed. She has been extra cuddly which is fun for me but I know she doesnt feel good. She has sat in our bed for hours watching the Care Bear - Big Wish Movie. Jim and I have all of the movie and songs memorized. She refuses to watch another movie, so today I brought in some of her friends as she was missing her friends at school. Hopefully she feels better soon!

Hailey's feet are starting to grow (finally) and she has been practicing how to tie her size 4 shoes. She spends a lot of time trying to figure it out and when she gets tired of it she makes sure to try to untie our shoes as well.

I mean who couldnt love them. To be honest she does not wear these often because she hates her feet being covered. This is to give Jessie a little more motivation. I was very happy to accompany Jessie to A bridal shop where she tried on many many dresses! It was so much fun to be with her and watch her facial expressions... Jess you were quite the trooper. It was toward the end of the few hour session at the bridal shop when Jessie tried on a dress that brought tears to my eyes immediately. When Jess turned around she had the most stunning smile to her face. I started crying and she tried not two. The positive news is that she stayed in that dress for nearly an hour trying on accessories with it. We left the store without a dress but I got a call last weekend that she and her mom purchased the dress! We are on step closer to a great celebration of Jessie and Dick's long lasting love!

For a few weeks, Beth has been having some stomach pains as she has had several times in the past. This time however, they were accompanied with a high fever. We were going to be in Duluth for the weekend, but after a trip to urgent care on Friday morning, she was admitted to the hospital. She was released late Saturday night and although still uncomfortable and weak, has been doing better.

I am at JFK in New York right now and can't wait to get back to see my girls. We were out for some client visits and stayed across the street from the WTC reconstruction effort. Quite crazy. Saw the NYSE, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, Times Square and the Empire State Building. Crazy stuff and way too busy. Can't wait to get home.

Duluth

Hey, We checked out some houses in the Burnsville and Savage areas last week and saw some that we liked but not enough to make the short list. I left to Duluth on Tuesday and have been here working through the week. Can't wait to see Beth and Hailey when they come up for a few nights at the Edge hotel and waterpark with grammie and grampie.

I am going to NYC Sunday and am a bit sad at leaving the girls behind for a few days. They are an awesome support!

Easter Sunday

We went to St. Cloud on Easter Sunday and lil huney got her first popsicle and did some playing outside. We spent the day with Dave and Karen and had a great time.

Today, we are taking a tour of a couple of houses in the burnsville/eagan/savage area and then are meeting Chad, Alyssa and Paige for a little fun at Chucky Cheese. I'm sure there will be some good pictures from that.

Well, we decided to leave a day early from Lincoln to head to Minnesota. Good thing we did. They got a ton of snow right after we got here. We woke up some turkeys in the back yard, and snow in the driveway. I didn't get enough experience with my snowblower in Lincoln this year, so I decided to give Gary's a try.

While I had a final exam to take (4 hours of Finance, yeah sweet) Hailey and Beth went to visit Sara and Lily. Hailey and Lily sure love playing together and now that they go to daycare together, they are growing really close. We're really anxious to hit the road back home for 10 days and hope that Hailey is as good in the car now as she was when she was little. We'll be in MPLS and Duluth and hope to see as many people as we can. (Sorry we won't be able to fit in a GR trip).

Oh, and congratulations to Mean Dean Dahline, "Weiner" to you Blandin folks, (his internal Blandin nickname to you people not in the know) on making his retirement official in May! You've been a role model to Tony and I and your commitment to your career has helped us in ours. We're all proud of you and can't wait for the increased visits!

Update on....well....life

Well, things are going ok for us but we are in a state of waiting. We still have our house listed in Lincoln and although we have seen more activity with the nice weather, we still don't have any bites. This whole credit mortgage mess is really hitting our efforts. I am finishing up my second term of grad school and beth is getting close to finishing up the first year as a therapist in the school system. Hailey has transitioned well into the toddler room and although she is getting much more bossy, is overall doing great. She is hilarious. She also rocks at doing puzzles and games and loves to read.

Well, better get back to work. We hope that we get to move soon and will post it here when it happens.

While Jim was away, the girls played! Hailey and Lily are going to be a handful when they grow up, I mean check these girls out in there convertible!

They had a great time at the play area at the local mall. They were exploring and in true Hailey fashion she spent most of the time people watching. Here the girls are getting ready to go down the slide. Hailey loved going on her belly.

I'm a Toddler now!

On Monday Feb. 25th, Hailey started in the Toddler Room at her daycare. She is lucky to be with many of her old friends from the Infant room, but WOW did those kids get big. Hailey has been adjusting well but at times seems to be giving the new staff a run for their money. Hailey loves to do puzzles, play kitchen, and read books. She is learning her numbers, letters, and more words every day. Here she is before leaving for school on her first day being a Toddler!

As some of you may or may not know I have been working toward my final social work license for the last couple years. I finally met my hours of services earlier this month and decided it was time to take the final exam. As the time for the exam approached I kept thinking "seriously, I am too old for this." I was quite quiet about the exam date so I didnt add any extra stress or anxiety. On Monday morning this week I drove myself to Omaha (parts of which I have never visited before) and arrived to the University of Omaha at 7:30 in the morning. I started my exam shortly after 8:30 and then the fun began. I was in the testing room alone and very distracted by the horrible wall color and akward chair (which had wheels and movable armrests, all got alot of use). The test was 170 questions, all multiple choice, and took me approximatley three hours. I found out immediately that I passed the test. As if that wasnt enough good news, when I returned to the car (which I parked in a one hour meter) I was without a ticket! So it is offical, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or for those of you in Minnesota a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), the highest licensure I can hold with a master degree. It is a great feeling and I am extremely excited for what the future will bring.

Getting Tubes

This morning we all left the house nice and early (5:30am) to arrive to the Nebraska Surgery Center by 6:00am. Hailey went in her favorite purple pajama's and was awake but quiet during the ride. When we arrived she really wanted to eat so Jim and I practically bounced on our heads trying to distract her. She was given an arm band which she hated and wanted off immediately. We were taken back to the pre-op room about 6:20 and waited to talk to the doctors before surgery began at 7:00. Hailey managed to charm all of the nursing staff and was in quite a good mood, however, it was short lived. Her nurse Sarah, was very nice and Hailey did not cry when Sarah took her back to the operation room. In all, the surgery lasted less than 10 minutes and the doctor reported all went well. Hailey had a difficult time waking up from the anesthesia and was quite disoriented and upset. She was not happy unless she was drinking her sippy cup and when we ran out she let us have it. After about 20 minutes Hailey was able to calm down and we were allowed to go home after she had her vital signs checked. We all got home and took a nap. Hailey woke up hungry and throughout the day has been returning to her normal self just a little extra tired.

We want to thank everyone for their support and well wishes today. Althought things went really well, I hope we never have to do it again!
